Blog Post: Foggy Morning, Boat Cleaning, and Jetty Fishing
The day kicked off with a dense, thick fog that clung to everything until well after 11 AM. It made for an interesting start, especially when I was out cleaning the boat. I had a moment where I wondered if Jenny had her spyglass pointed my way—all she would have seen was my backside as I worked along the waterline!
My original plan was to go fishing, but I knew the fish wouldn't be biting until closer to sunset. With the fog still heavy, my attention turned to the guys fishing off the jetty. The fog created an almost ethereal backdrop, completely obscuring everything behind them. They looked absolutely freezing this morning; I could even see their breath as they cupped their hands trying to stay warm.
I was contemplating doing another drawing of them, even though I've already sketched people fishing off a jetty before. I think it would be great for the blog! The unique conditions today—the dense fog and their visible efforts to stay warm—would make for a really compelling scene.

Beyond the ordinary
I've been staying at Anchor Parua Bay for a couple of days, working on some art inspired by the boat races. Clare asked me about my creative process, so I thought I'd share a bit about it. When I'm in the right mood and need to focus, watching the sunrise really helps—it’s a moment of pure inspiration. The morning light is simply delightful. Since the bay is somewhat sheltered, the water is calmer, which makes it easier to concentrate. To start, I take some photos to capture the details, as these help jog my memory later. However, I don't rely on photos alone—they limit my ability to place elements exactly where I want them. That's where my sketch pad comes in. With it, I can rearrange the scene to create a more visually pleasing composition. I can adjust the background, change angles, or modify anything I don't like to suit my vision. Some days are more productive than others, but I'm constantly teaching myself new techniques to improve. I hope this gives you an idea of how I approach my art!
