Manganese Point
Manganese Point
This piece features Manganese Point on the right and Motukiore Island (also known as Ross Island) on the left. I drew this during a gale; it's a spot where we often shelter from the strong westerly or south-westerly winds. This was one of my first attempts at capturing a landscape while riding the waves on my boat, Charmaine, which is featured in another piece. A fascinating local detail is that at low tide, a farmer leads sheep across the exposed gap between the point and the island.
