This painting captures a moment of pure comedy from the day my husband and I first arrived in Parua Bay. After picking up our mooring, we found ourselves next to an old concrete boat, complete with grass on its deck. Suddenly, two shags emerged from the cockpit.

They strutted towards us with the most comical air of authority, as if to say, "And what do you think you're doing here?" Halfway along the deck, the first shag paused, slowly raising its beak into the air like a true snob. The second followed in perfect imitation. We couldn't stop laughing. This piece is dedicated to those two "stuck-up" birds who gave us the funniest, most memorable welcome to the bay.
