Iona
This drawing is very personal to me. I made it from an old black and white photo that's nearly 60 years old and starting to fade. I had to bring this memory back to life in colour.
That's me with my Dad on the boom of his first boat, the "Iona." He built her himself. This was one of the very first times I'd ever met him.
The short story is that I was left at the Devonport naval base as a baby. When I was three, my grandfather found out about me and came to get me. They say I ran right past my grandad and straight into my father's arms. That's how I came home. This picture, of me and him sailing, is a memory from the very beginning of my life with them.
